"Equipping Christ followers to take the Gospel to the Nations"

Eben Maloney
ASM graduate featured this week
Eben Maloney was a Gateway to the Nations student at ASM in 2013. He has moved to Rietfontein to work with the rampant alcoholism and despair, giving out the good news of Jesus. Herewith a post from Eben:
"The first time we went to Rietfontein we met Susan (not her real name) a grandmother with these beautiful blue eyes and, like most of the people there over 40, a face full of wrinkles. She was really interested in anything one could teach her about God and Christian life.
We were also introduced to her husband that time. He, for some reason unknown to me, came to fetch her from the church where we were teaching. She refused and he sat there in the meeting, clearly not sober. When he asked for prayer, like drunk people normally do, my friend told him to sober up first so he could be communicated to.
The next day he came back sober, and asked for prayer to stop smoking. Apparently he didn't think that drinking was a problem in his life.
I often thought of this dear sister in Christ and how difficult her life must be. She had to hide money from him - that is of course a big issue. She told me how her siblings threw her out of her family house because she didn't agree with their alcoholic lifestyle. Now she lives in a makeshift room which had to be moved a couple of times because of similar circumstances.
This time when I was there she came to me for prayer before going to court. One night she was awakened by a blow to the head with some object when he was apparently trying to kill her in his drunk state. Luckily she escaped a second blow and went running down the street bloodied and looking for help. He was arrested at that time and has been in prison since then while the court procedure decided his fate. She tried to drop the charge against him (apparently he's very nice when he's sober), but it is a criminal thing now.
I don't know what happened with the case, but I'm still praying.
I would like to see her life improve. I would like to see him get saved. I would like to see all
this hurt disappear from Rietfontein".
